If Allah creates the world with a word 'kun', then why are six days used to create the universe?
The most decisive reason that pitted science against religion on the evolution of matter and life was the mistaken interpretation of the "six days" of creation explained by God in the Old Testament and the Qur’an. The creationist assumed the days to be a normal rotation of the earth once in a 24-hour period, if so, how could the evolutionist talk of billions of years? This debate is still raging. Bishop Ussher’s famous conclusion is that God created the heavens and the earth in 4004BC as other Biblical scholars, measuring the genealogy provided in the Old Testament, concludes creation to be not older than 6000 years, assigning a thousand years to a day. Most theologians took the scriptures literary thus finding many things outside the scriptures irreconcilable.God opened his story in Genesis with the chronological description of the six days of creation. Are these to be taken literally as 24 hour period? Of course not because a 24 hour period depends on a fully developed star system that harbors a planet, and if we are to take the literal meaning of the Genesis account, day and night were only created on the fourth day. In II Peter 3:8“….With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”.Also in Psalms 90:4 “Yes in your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday” And in the Qur’an he says Q22:47“Verily a day in the sight of your lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning”and in Q70:4“The angels and the spirit ascend to him in a day the measure whereof is as fifty thousand years”.Clearly when the scriptures talk about days of creation, they are referring to Day-age representing long periods, epoch or eras of evolution not the 24 hours day. The Quran further elaborates chronologically the six days of creation which includes 2 periods of the creation of the universe, galaxies, stars and planets. The remaining four days were those on earth how life began and evolved, culminating into us. The 4 periods are what scientist termed the Geological periods of Pre-Cambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras.The universe began with a Big Bang billions of years ago as the Qur’an aptly described in 21:30 "Do not the unbelievers see that the heavens and earth were joined together in one unit of creation (the primordial atom) before we clove them asunder (the big bang)?"
We can clearly understand that the kun fa yakun in no way means instantaneous. Adam was created by it but he went through a process from inorganic matter to organic, Jesus was a clone of his mother and me and you were as a result of passing through a process of fertilisation from a single cell to a full embryo with trillions of cell passing gestation period. No one can show you God's kun fa yakun as an instantaneous process, akin to a magician. Everything happens through a temporal process, which unwinds God's kun fa kun.
