HOW ISLAM ABOLISH SLAVERY

The issue of slavery is one of the most misunderstood and abused issues in Islam but God has clearly cleared the matter. The slavery issue is of two dimensions but were confused into one. As long as humans exist there would be wars and as long as there would be wars there must be PRISONERS OF WAR. That is the first category and chief source of slaves. Slaves were part of human wealth during the revelation of the Qur'an enshrined in the economic system of the then world. Slave children automatically becomes slaves. In order to abolish slavery in its entirety, God employed the perfect strategy. First he commanded

8:67 “It is not for a prophet to take prisoners before he subdued land (in war). You desire the material of this world but God desire the heareafter“

The times of skirmishes to catch slaves was over for Muslims from this verse. The only valid way to acquire new prisoners is after war and total victory. Even after victory and having prisoners of war, God further enjoined Muslims

47:4 “.. Then when you have routed then, bind them firmly. Then either release them by grace or by ransom until war lays down its burden “

After the war you have only one option, to have them released in two options : For FREE or for RANSOM.

Considering slavery was entrenched in human economic culture of the time, God avoided the confusion it's direct ban could cause, (we are all aware how Lincoln presidency plunged America into a deadly civil war after abolishing slavery) but after blocking the means of getting new slave source, to do away with the domestic slaves owned by Muslim he applied measures thus:

  1. To Expatiate vows…Free a slave Q5:89
  2. For manslaughter.Free a slave Q4:92
  3. For one Marital re-union (Zihar)…. FREE a slave Q58:3
  4. Slave woman that wants to marry…. FREE her Q24:33
  5. Freeing of slaves ranked equivalent to the second pillar of Islam Zakat Q9:6

If Muslims had adhered strictly to these steps, since a slave child could not be slave, by the second century of Islam, slavery would have been abolished completely from Muslim land. It will only geared it's head in war and prisoners released after wars.

ARE HELL & HEAVEN ETERNAL?

But teachings of Muslim, influenced by earlier religions, made it so. It doesn't reflect the justice of God to torment anyone for eternity for a sin of a lifetime that is mere 100 years at maximum.
